To honor the significance of Juneteenth and support and further the movement to fight systemic racism taking place in my local community, our country, and in many parts of the world, while not forgetting to mark World Refugee Day, and the ongoing, and even worsening, plight of the many refugees in the world – I frankly couldn’t choose just one picture book. But even if I had a pile of books at hand, it’s clear that any book I’d choose to review today would need to be special. Join others in the fight.I perused my bookshelves to choose a Perfect Picture Book for today, which was no small feat, as our local library hasn’t reopened yet and even upon reopening, it’s unclear if interlibrary loans will be possible. My kids identified that as their Daddy (who works in construction) right away! My favorite page reads: "Inquire. There is nothing age-inappropriate or scandalous, unless equal rights seem unfair to you (here's looking at you, Brian Kemp)! There is an adorable page of construction workers and one is baby-wearing. It's a perfect introduction to civic engagement and peaceful protest. My advice is to ignore whatever troll campaign sent the one-star reviewers, and buy it for yourself and your kiddos! I've bought one for my family and will be giving others as Christmas presents.īack to the book: the art is gorgeous, the content is beautiful and relatable-my kids were able to recognize voting, making protest posters, and other activities they have participated in. A mom read it and loved it, but then she noticed there are quite a few one-star reviews that seem to have an idealogical bent. This book was recommended through a Facebook parenting group.
